By having a cautious attitude and following a few tips from safety efforts, parents can be more assured that they are keeping their baby safe.
Toy Basketball Nets
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled many children’s toy basketball nets. If you purchase one of these, make sure the net cannot be unhooked from the rim and does not have sliding knots. These types have strangled many children. Read more below.
Draw String Clothing
Drawstrings on hoods and other clothing items can become hooked on playground equipment, fences and more. A child can strangle to death if the drawstring becomes hooked – especially if the child has been climbing. There should be no drawstrings around your child’s hood or neck. Drawstrings around the waste should not extend more than three inches from the clothing.
Playpens and Play Yards
Some play pens are made with dangerous protruding hardware. They can trap a child if the braces are not secured correctly, which is easy to do. Many playpens and play yards have been recalled.
Hair Dryers
If you are looking for a hair dryer, make sure it has an immersion protection plug. The plug should have a large, rectangular safety plug. Look for frays in the cord.
Car Seats and Baby Carriers
You should never buy a used car seat or baby carrier. If the seats were ever in an accident, they could be compromised. Furthermore, many have been recalled and older models may not be safe.
Halogen Floor Lamps
These lamps should have wire or glass guards over the bulb shield. Never use one that is more than 300 watts.
